Spatium Capital has responded to adviser and SMSF trustee requests for easier, cleaner digital access via applications and signature protocols.
Spatium Capital has appointed True Oak (Trustee) and The ASCENT Group (Administrator) for its Spatium Small Companies Fund (Fund).
True Oak is a 40-year-old AFSL, which was recently spun-out from Future Super. ASCENT is an independent, global fund administrator offering a fully digital investor and fund accounting service for more than 700 Funds on their platform, across 12 of the globe’s largest financial hubs.
“We’re thrilled to embark on this journey with Spatium Capital as their newly appointed Trustee. The True Oak team look forward to bringing our passion, expertise, and dedication to support Spatium in their continued success and growth in the new year.” – John Billington, Managing Director of True Oak.
Minimising admin friction and empowering more offshore growth
“Both True Oak and ASCENT are exciting providers to support the ongoing growth of the Fund with advisers here in Australia and institutions abroad. The opportunity to minimise friction for sophisticated and accredited investors to access the Fund was too important to not pursue change. True Oak and ASCENT will integrate seamlessly with platforms and other systems necessary for any competitive fund in today’s environment” – Nicholas Quinn, Director, Spatium Capital.
The independent quant manager has gone from strength to strength throughout 2023, returning +22.2% for FY23 and onboarding Conduit Group, the Singaporean wealth group as a client.
Spatium Capital expects these transitions to be completed in early 2024.

SQM Research awarded Spatium Capital a Favourable rating for its Small Cap Fund in 2023.
SQM’s Fund description of Spatium Capital:
The Spatium Capital Small Companies Fund (the “Fund”) is an actively traded portfolio of approximately 25-to-40 listed companies, turning over each position in the portfolio, on average, every 30-to-45 days. The Fund invests within the ASX300 only, with on average, 85% of the portfolio allocated to the 101-300 and 15% allocated to the top 100.
The Fund seeks to identify and capitalise on mispriced and short-term equity price dislocations.
The trading strategy uses a quantitative model developed by the Directors over the past 10+ years. In terms of the commonly known factors, momentum, small size, volatility profiling and mean reversion are considered elements of the strategy. No fundamental research or sector views are taken.
SQM Research considers this strategy will have a low correlation with many other small-cap funds over the long term.
