Apple recently announced it would phase out Intel’s CPU silicon processors (chips) in its Mac computers following its success with in-house designed chips, ‘Apple Silicon’, using Britain’s ARM-based architecture in its iPad Pros and iPhones.
Apple has spent much R&D on designing a Mac chip that seamlessly integrates with its other signature products, with the significant added benefit of direct control over Mac output.
To add fire to the mix, NVIDIA is in negotiations with SoftBank to acquire ARM, who are now also specialising in low-power-consuming CPU architecture, specifically for the autonomous vehicle, data centre and IoT industries, highly complementary to NVIDIA’s leading GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) architecture.
