Charitable bequests are often the target of disgruntled family members left out of, or unhappy about the contents of the deceased’s Will. It is possible to make charitable bequests and ensure the wishes of the benefactor are privately and directly met outside of a legal will and the deceased’s estate.
“Some Insurance Bonds have a special nomination mechanism allowing philanthropic bequests to charities, churches, hospitals, schools etc.
“This mechanism enables a nomination to be made discreetly and as a ‘non-estate’ asset can help to put these types of bequests beyond challenge of Will and legal estate beneficiaries,” said Richard Atkinson, Head of IFA Product and Relationships, AUSTOCK Life.
These types of nominations are possible because Bond nominations have wide flexibility to be made in favour of individuals and also legal entities, including companies and incorporated associations.
